Applying myself

Two shows in the books - one success and one that I treated as a dress rehearsal, both illuminating. I have branched out and applied to a few markets that vet your work and your business model before they even consider if you are a good fit for a particular sale.

First time around, I applied for a more niche market, a spooky sale. Before I even submitted the application I said to myself “if I get accepted, that would be amazing but unexpected”. I was not accepted and that’s okay.

Second sale I applied to with this coordinating company was sending me all the signals I needed to push me to apply. The specific market I was interested in had so many aspects to it that it almost seemed kismet. The location of the sale is in my hometown, where I still have family nearby. The business hosting the market is one of my favorite breweries, it’s small and the beer styles they specialize in are some of mine and my husbands favorites (and we have opposite taste when it comes to beer). The last aspect that seemed like a sign that I had to apply is the fact that the show is on my birthday. All of this made me feel that this was meant to be. I was accepted. It’s not for a few months but I’ll be sure to write about afterwards.

I need to trust my gut and believe that my work fits with the markets that call out to me. If I don’t get accepted, oh well, maybe next time.
