Navigating Sales
My first sale was this past summer and I was immensely anxious about it. Would people like my stuff? Was I under pricing my work? Over pricing? Would my table get completely knocked over and hours/days/months/years of work would be destroyed? Would anyone I know come to see me and my art?
Not only did my family come but most of the friends I told about the show came to the show. I made several sales and chatted with other artists.
Thankfully, it was an indoor sale that only required a table and my work. This was a lowkey sale and the barrier for entry was quite low. One of my art friends was supposed to be in the show but couldn’t make it work so they recommended me for this one. They believed in me more than I believed in myself.
Since my first show was a success, I felt more comfortable going for another.
The next sale was an outdoor mini market with about 10 vendors. The foot traffic was virtually nonexistent. Despite this, I was able to make a few sales. After an hour at the sale I decided to treat this as a practice run for future outdoor markets. Might as well work out all the wrinkles while I had gorgeous weather. It was sort of like a dress rehearsal.
I’m looking forward to my next sale whenever that might be!
